The Road to Racing
Despite having a seasoned history MotoGP was founded recently in 2002. This was the inaugural season for MotoGP replacing the 500cc class in Grand Prix races. However the first motorcycle world championship grand prix was hosted by FIM (fédération internationale de motocyclisme) in 1949. The 1949 series had 5 separate categories, These being the 125cc, 250cc, 350cc, 500cc, and the sidecars. Since then the sport has grown into what we know and love today.
